2016 CONFERENCE SPEAKERS

Blase Sylvester is a Licensed Cosmetologist who has been practicing her art for 20 years. At age 18, she moved from the island of St. Thomas to New York City where she excelled at her trade and eventually became the owner of two (2) beauty salons and a cleaning service.

Soon after she moved from New York City to Little Falls in upstate New York, she was hired by a glass recycling company where she still works in administration and accounting. Not forgetting her first love, she continues to apply her trade as a cosmetologist on the weekends. As a Caribbean native, a natural and holistic lifestyle was her way of life growing up. She continues to embrace and educate natural lifestyle choices in make-up, skin and hair care in her spare time as a demo representative for a number of natural and organic skin care product companies including Aubrey Organics, Dr. Bronners and Weleda. Blase is the Creator of I Am A Success Story™ which sponsors an annual Women’s Wellness Conference empowering women on diverse issues such as finances, career, health, and relationships. She created her own weekly radio show on BlogTalk radio where she addresses a range of issues – mostly of interest to women. The mother of 5 beautiful children, she has been an exemplary parent. She has served many roles in the community and was a guest on the Iyanla Vanzant show. One of the highlights of her personal life was being featured in “A Day in the Life of a Single Parent” on Channel 7 ABC Network on behalf of The Single Parent Resource Center NYC. Nivia Cavic PhD, has been working in the field of training, personal development and mental health for over 30 years. She holds a PhD in Psychology and teaches a variety of courses including Social Psychology, Ethics, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, and Theories of Counseling.

By applying her iam idecide TM philosophy to the human condition, she provides workshops on effective parenting, athletic performance, addiction/recovery, purposeful living, and inter-personal relationships. She has counseled hundreds of individuals, families and groups through the process of recognizing, owning and leveraging personal power in order to help them live productive, meaningful, fulfilled lives.

Presently, she is a member of the Faculty at Mohawk Valley Community College, and is completing her first book, titled, “Standing Under”.

Marchell Scarano Owner of Yoga Instructor at "Yoga For All" is an experience Hatha Yoga instructor since 1979 and she have been working at it most of the time since then. Marchell's approach to Hatha Yoga is that it should be done slowly. That each asana (posture) should be held for as long as is comfortable for each student. This method allows one to get the most out of the asana. In this way it is possible for each student to get the maximum from the posture (given their level of ability).

Dana Klein is a New York artist. Between 2001 and 2014 Ms. Klein worked and lived in her studio in Italy. In 2014 she returned to The States. Presently she lives and works in Little Falls NY where she had opened Bell Tower and Education Center, a non profit organization, and Klein Art Gallery and Coffee House.

Works by this artist can be found in prestigious private and public collections throughout Europe, Middle East and The USA, where she is considered a contemporary master.

Dr. Janice Lester Bell, MSW, PhD

Janice Lester Bell received an MSW from Roberts Wesleyan College and an MA and PhD from The Ohio State University.

She is a devoted Christian having served in Christian education and evangelistic ministry for three decades. Dr. Bell has worked as a clinical therapist and is currently an assistant professor of Human Services at Mohawk Valley Community College. She currently works in ministry in various capacities including First Lady of the First Baptist Church of Herkimer, NY.

JoAnn Salamone was born and raised in Little Falls, New York where she met her husband of thirty-six love-filled years and raised their five wonderful children. She received her degree in education and communication from the State University of New York at Oneonta and is currently self-employed as an Independent Consultant specializing in conflict resolution and communication.

Kathleen Curtis, LPN, Executive Director of Clean and Healthy New York

Kathleen Curtis, LPN, Executive Director, has over twenty three years of experience in the environmental health movement, and is a widely recognized national leader whose policy expertise is in high demand. Her leadership has guided enactment of several state laws regulating toxic chemicals.

She coordinates the JustGreen Partnership, the Alliance for Toxic-Free Fire Safety and the Coming Clean Policy Workgroup. She was Executive Director at Citizens' Environmental Coalition for her last four years there, which she began by establishing their Community Outreach Program. Previously, she was Outreach Director at Environmental Planning Lobby (now Environmental Advocates of NY) and worked as a nurse.
She is on the NYS Taskforce on Flame Retardant Safety and the steering committees of EPA’s DfE decaBDE and HBCD Alternatives Assessment Partnerships. She is on the steering committees of the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Coalition and Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, where she coordinates the Policy and Advocacy workgroup. Kathy also serves on ANHE’s Board of Directors and the Advisory Board of the Occupational and Environmental Health Clinic of Eastern NY. She has four children: Adam, Amber, Shannon and Vanessa and a step-daughter Rachel.

Kathy Sumner PT, MA Collaborative Healing, Little falls, NY

With thirty years’ experience in the field of physical therapy and a master’s degree in Applied Healing Arts, I have had the privilege of learning from a variety of sources, most notably, from my interactions with a wide cross section of the community dealing with pain and disability.

Elaina Marie Amendolare is a young proud single mother of two boys ages 7 and 5. She grew up in Frankfort, NY where she graduated high school. Elaina Marie attended college at HCCC and earned a degree in Business Administration.

She worked in the restaurant industry for most of her adulthood. While a server and bartender Elaina Marie attended Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute, where she took great pleasure in serving people and fine dining became a great passion. She developed a deep love for cooking which in turn became one of her creative expressions of love.
She has experienced a variety of food and culture while living in Florida and Sommerset, England, where she informally studied nutrition.
After having children, nutrition became more than an interest, it became a passion. Elaina pursued her education on-line through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition which is based in Manhattan. She received a certification as a Holistic Health coach in October of 2012. Elaina Currently resides in Doldgeville with her children and manages Words Ponds Bed and Breakfast and Holis
